My wife has worn a platinum wedding ring for 4 years. She is getting a red rash now. Do we get a new ring???

It is a red rash only on her ring finger. The skin looks a little flakey too. It gets better after she takes it off and basically disappears. We sent it off to be professionally cleaned, buffed, etc., hoping that maybe it was just something on the ring that could be cleaned off. This is the only ring she wears. Will switching to a white gold ring alleviate the rash/irritation or will she have to go without any ring?

Allergies can arise after prolonged exposure to an allergen. Take her to the doc to see if she is now allergic to platinum, & take the ring to a jewler to see if it has been compromised. If she is now allgeric, then she might/probbaly need(s) a new ring.

platinum is hypoallergenic so if it’s authentic platinum this shouldn’t be the problem. and you may have even more trouble with white gold because it’s not hypoallergenic and can have nickel in it… many people have skin allergies to that.
