Am I wrong to accept a free ring from a merchant ?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

I helped this merchant out (paperwork, contacts etc.) when he was tryng to build his store. As an appreciation gift, he wants to give me a pave set diamond band that fits my pinkie. In addition, he is giving my boyfriend a DEEP discount on an engagement ring for me. My boyfriend is FURIOUS about the other ring. Am I wrong to take it?

looking for a specific engagement ring picture?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

hi, I know this is a long shot, but my boyfriend and I went to look at rings, and I found one I like at JB Robinson. it is a very tiny band with pave diamonds halfway down the band. but the cool thing about it is when you tip the ring and look at the sides of the band, there is a really cool see through curly-q type of design. The ring is not exactly what I want, but I love that design, and they wouldn't let me take a picture of it in the store b/c my boyfriend wants to get the ring made... does anybody have this ring or can find it online? I've looked everywhere and can't find it :(

What should I settle for as an engagement ring?

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

my boyfriend of nearly 5 years and i have been talking alot about getting engaged soon and he has suggested looking at rings. i've done some online browsing and im really quite fond of the "halo" settings with the pave diamonds surrounding the main stone and going down the shank of the ring.

to me i would really like a 1 carat ring. i guess thats pretty standard. i would like to get the best stone as possible for it. for example, i really dont want a yellowish color. anyway, while doing research i've really come to like some of the designer styles like tacori or ritani. these are sold as just semi mount, so we would have to get a diamond for it. at mall stores like harry ritchies or whatever all of their rings come with stones. i have one ring in mind at harry's that i like, but the reason i shift away from them is because i feel like the majority of people go there for their rings and i try to be unique so these designer styles, although slightly more expensive, are different.

my questions are;
should i settle for a less expensive pretty ring that i liked to begin with, before i came across these more unique brands, but are already set in stones.

should i get a unuque band and settle for a less expensive, less quality stone.

should i get a unique band and get maybe a gemstone instead of a diamond, cutting the costs alot.

and finally, what are some of your opinions on gemstones as engagement rings? they are more unique than a diamond, and less expensive therfore i could have a larger center stone, but for a ring you wear everyday, with the colored stone it probley wouldnt match with everyday clothing like a white diamond.

also, what about getting a unique designer band and possibley getting a diamonique stone to put in it? would a jeweler be willing to do this?

i just really feel like its time to move forward with our relationship, but i want to be as economical as well. we are both in college so the budget is limited and i would like the best look for the money.

CZ accent jewelry settings?

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Do they even exist? lol

I've been looking for "accented ring settings" (eg. pave accented)

....and I found a lot .... of diamond accented ring settings (which I can't afford)

But if there are so many diamond accented ring settings, it would make sense that they would also sell cz accented ring settings... but they don't seem to exist? heh

I've seen millions of cz pave rings, but I dont want the finished product, because I have citrine that I want to use as the main stone.... I just want a "setting, with cz pave on it".

Women or Bride to be on engagement ring?

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

This is a question on real or fake diamonds and what you think (please read below).
My common law wife and I have been living with each other for about 5 years. We both make decent money. She is an attorney and I'm in the audit/compliance field. I've been pretty lucky because she is not a materialistic type of girl. She's very down to earth and low maintanence Early in our relationship she would talk about what kind of ring and diamonds she wanted. But about two years ago, she up and said "I don't want a real diamond anymore, just get me a fake one that looks real." I think she got that from her own mother who told her that diamonds aren't worth it and that you could use the money on other important things. Lucky me eh? :)

So I've been pondering for a while and currently shopping for a ring to make it official for us. And even though she "says" she wants a fake diamond, I'm going to get her real ones. I want to "invest" in a good quality diamonds/ring for her and just to her something really nice. Of course it will be GIA certified and I picked out a nice setting with 3 diamonds and paves: main one is about 1.09 carat at Ideal cut/F color/ VS1 clarity with the smaller sides totaling to about .85 carat with the same specs. Of course this will cost me a good part of my savings.

Ok, so my main question is. If you were the non-materialistic girl and worried about saving money...Would you be very mad at me in buying you a nice engagement ring and make me return it (bc your're worried about the economy and our well being).? Or would you suck it up and accept it with a grain of salt knowing I spent quite a bit of cash on it.... and love it?

Keep in mind, I'm taking her to Paris in April and will propose to her some where nice... maybe the Eiffel tower. It's a surprise. I know it's cliche... but I think she would love it. Thx for reading and for your input!

should i get my engagement ring fixed?

Friday, July 30th, 2010

something happened to my engagement ring about a month ago a bunch of the pave diamonds came out, the halo got bent and the center diamond came out, i had it insured but the place we took it too did really crappy job fixing it, some of the prongs holding the pave diamonds were broken, and instead of melting it down they added a huge wad of gold next to the diamonds so it just doesn't have that clean pave look, also the halo is still bent. It's prob going to cost a bit of money to fix and i dont want to tell my insurance company *the first place did a bad job*, do you think its worth fixing, Ive only been engaged a few months and it bothers me every time i look at it, its not noticeable to anyone else unless they really look at it...what would you do? also keeping in mind i didnt have it on my finger for 2 weeks and now i will have to not have it for a month or so again...in the midst of wedding planning its kind of embaressing.

Would a 5/8 carat diamond fit into a 6mm mounting?

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

The main diamond in my engagement ring was kicked out during a "no holds barred" Michael Jackson dance-off. Ridiculous, I know, but I was lucky enough to find my diamond and would like to set in a pave mounting with space for a 6mm center stone. Would my 5/8 princess cut diamond fit?

Need help shopping for a good-valued engagement ring?

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

I'm thinking of proposing in the next month or so, and I need help shopping for an engagement ring. My mom says she can give me the diamond that my dad gave her, so the diamond is already there, I'd just need to buy a setting.

My girlfriend and I have looked at some rings, and she's mentioned interest in a setting such as the:

Platinum Intertwined Pavé Diamond Setting (BlueNile.com)

I was wondering if I could find a similar setting at a (hopefully) discounted price at any other vendors, since I'm a struggling college student.

She isn't very concerned about the price of the ring or the quality or type or whatnot, I just want to get her something nice, which will still let us have money left over, you know, for the REAL important things: houses, kids, food, etc.
