Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

We just celebrated our 10th Wedding Anniversary and hubby is giving me an eternity ring. I've narrowed my choices to these two. Which one would you choose? Thanks :)

Opinions: Should I get sapphires and diamonds in my wedding bands or just diamonds?

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

My engagement ring is a palladium three stone ring that was put together by my fiance, his dad and his step mother. There are two sapphires, 1/2 carat each on each side of my diamond which is also 1/2 carat. My engagement ring means a lot as the sapphires come from his step mother's family and have been passed down several generations and the diamond is from his mother's wedding ring (she passed away when he was 12).
I want to make the whole thing stand out… My soon to be step mother in law suggested a pave setting band on each side of my engagement ring as wedding bands.. But I don't know what would look better. Bands with sapphires and diamonds or just diamonds.. Please give an opinion.
No rude comments.
I Am Meg- Exactly I want the bands to make the ring really stand out!
Forgot to mention, sorry, I don't like channel set. I prefer the pave bands…
chine- the sapphires are family heirlooms, they are so dark they're almost black but when they hit the light right they are a gorgeous dark blue…
FYI- not giving anyone thumbs down as this is opinion only. So if you got one, sorry, it wasn't me.

What is the difference between a pave setting and a shared prong setting?

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

I’m looking into wedding bands and I cannot tell the difference between some of the pave settings and a shared prong setting. I always thought my e-ring had a shared prong setting, but now looking at pictures, I think mine might be a micro pave setting! Any advice on how to tell the difference?

P.S. Any good websites for wedding bands?

P.P.S. I read somewhere that you should not have 2 pave rings touching one another. Is this true?

can a ring with a slight curve have a matching straight band? Can you miss-match wedding ring with band?

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

I'm having a heck of a time finding a band for my curved pave ring. Does a wedding ring have to have a similar pattern on the band? Does a curved ring have to have a curved band or can a straight band match?

white gold or yellow? should i get zales warranty? really LONG questions about wedding jewelry. please help!?

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Okay, this question has a couple different parts and I want to go ahead and say thanks for any and all help!
Short version is: Should i get a ring at Zales/Gordon’s, do they back up what they sell pretty good? Do they go out of business often?
Should i get yellow gold or white? White has to be dipped every year and yellow doesnt. If i get white it’s going to be an extra warranty to have free rhodium dips. Is it worth it since my closest zales and gordons is more than an hour away?

Below is a lot more details so you can better understand my questions and why i have them.
I got engaged May 2009. I have a white gold band with a solitaire. We started looking for bands for the ceremony (august 2010) and i decided i like the ones with diamonds in them.
To get a band that looks good with my diamond and on my finger (they are long but chubby) I would need a 1/2 carat total weight band, either pave or channel. It’s basically going to be just as cheap to get a pretty bridal set as it is a 1/2 carat band. I tried some on and have also looked online and am willing to sacrifice the 1/2 carat band to get a prettier bridal set with a little less carat weight. The set i like looks pretty big on the hand but up close it’s several smaller diamonds grouped together. I’ll post a link of the one im considering, below.

My main issue is, I had NO clue that white gold was actually just a faint yellow gold dipped in rhodium. I started doing some research and heard people talking about getting their rings "dipped" and then I started studying my band on my diamond and sure enough there’s a little faint yellow showing through. When I asked several jewelers they said most people get them dipped once a year and it’s about per ring.

So.. If i get a white gold set from Zales/Gordon’s they have the diamond bond which says that if i break or chip or lose a diamond or knock the head off the ring, they will fix or replace it ( i like that a lot). That’s included with the price. I can also add on an extra warranty that allows me free sizing and rhodium dipping for life and it’s . My main question is, should I get the ring from Zales/Gordon’s and if so, should I add the warranty? The only reason I’m thinking about not adding that on is because there is only one zales and one gordon’s around me within a 2 hours radius. I have to take the diamond there every 6 months for inspection. What happens if I get the ring at Gordons and then they go out of business? I’ve emailed the company to see if i can take it to any other gordons or a zales since they own each other. So far all i got was "we need more time to answer your Q"

Also, I prefer white gold but should i maybe reconsider and train myself to like yellow gold since i wont have to worry about having it dipped every year? My class ring is yellow and i don’t really mind it, i just seem to prefer white but maybe that’s because it’s the "going thing." I know most people will say "go with what you like since you’re wearing it" but im wondering if anyone out there thinks it’s worth the hassle to have to get the white one dipped every year…and keep in mind i have to drive more than an hour to get it inspected twice a year and to get it dipped once a year. And also keep in mind they could go out of business since they are in a rinkydink mall in a small town.

Here’s the ring in yellow: http://www.zales.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4091622&kpc=1
Here it is in white: http://www.zales.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4091621&kpc=1

If you made it this far, i have one more question: Can you haggle with jewelry chains like zales, gordons, and kays? Could i ask them what’s the lowest they’d take if im paying cash (which we will be)
If I get platinum i would have to go way lower in carat size.
The deal is, I’m in college and he just bought a house. Obviously we cant spend a thousand more dollars on a ring set because the ring i have now is already about that much. Like i said, it’s about as cheap to get a set as it is to get a band in the specifications i want.
The reason i asked about haggling the price is that the rep at gordon’s said they can give a 10% discount if she asks the manager. So i assumed if they could ask and knock off 10% why not 15 or 20% if im paying cash and not financing.
I found the exact same set with the same color and clarity on another site for about half of what gordon’s charges… so now i hav e to decide if i want to chance buying it online and pocket the extra 0 to pay for dipping and small stone replacement.
I’m just trying to save my fiance money, he does so much for me already. I know i sound cheap but im just trying not to take advantage of his money for a ring that is only a symbol. Some people don’t even have rings so I already feel blessed.

Because of you: I feel love

When I feel blue, I think of you, because your true, I feel brand new…….

When some days are sad, things get bad, you take my hand and pat my head,

you hold me tight, I never fight, its a delight your by my side….

you saved my day, paved the way, I have to say why can’t you stay….

I feel love in your smile, I feel love when I’m with you, I feel love in your words, why can’t you stay with me?

Some days get grey, I stop and pray, to find a way, where ever you are, near or far, you still own my gentle heart,

because my love is real, bigger than the two of us, I can’t describe, how I need you so much,

I feel love when we kiss, I feel love when I’m holding you, I feel love in your laugh, please don’t go away from me……

When I’m with you, It seems I can do, what I want to, just to please you,

I look to you, you look to me, you hold a ring, your on one knee, I can not breathe, you comfort me,

Because your love is real, no one says we fight or fuss, sometimes that’s not true, but that just means we are human,

I wait at home, I’m all alone, you call the phone, where ever you are, your in the car, your not too far,
The last thing you said "may we wed"? I said yes, meet me at ten, we’ll tell our friends…..

Two days go by, I still cry, I stay inside, the rain lingers on, I’m not that strong, I can’t hold on, that message plays, most every day, when you say "I’m on my way"…..

I know our love was real, it was better than the two of us, the words cant reply to how I miss you so much,

I feel love in your touch, and I feel love when I think of you, I felt love in your life, where ever you may be……………………………………………….

I hope you think of me…..

Do I have to have a wedding band?

Friday, October 28th, 2011

My engagement ring is very unique. It has a split band that is covered with pave diamonds. It's gorgeous and kind of thick on my finger. Do I have to have a wedding band or would it be okay to just use my engagement ring as both my wedding band and engagement ring? My ring is so unique that I don't think I could find anything that would compliment it and I really don't want to get something that would take away from it's beauty.

Which ring do you like better?

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Yes, another one. I thought I was set on moissanite and I love the ring, but I am weighing my options. I do like that the white sapphire is a natural gemstone. The white sapphire ring is as much as the moissanite set, and the white sapphire set(ering and band) is out of the budget.

Creative ideas please for a suitable wedding band?

Monday, October 17th, 2011

I'd appreciate some opinions on what I should do for my wedding band. here is my engagement ring (14k gold, 21 diamonds totalling 1 ct weight, pave setting); http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/onblack.php?id=1111062455

There is one that fits with this but it I'm not sure if I like it. It adds an extra row of diamonds on the outside, so the ring loses its shape of 3 flowers, and the matching band is too small to be worn on its own.
I'm not necessarily looking for a specific example or picture, but more of opinion/suggestion.
Should I get something that fits into the shape of it or no?
Stay with 14k yellow gold or add another tone?
Diamonds only or other gemstone?
stones on wedding band or no?
should my wedding band be made to match my fiance's?

I almost wish I had asked for a more plain solitaire (but we are young and the ones I liked were way too expensive). I love this ring but its proving difficult to find a match.
Is there an existing ring you think would look good, let me know!
