Does an engagement ring look better in white or yellow gold?
They say it all depends on the skin tone…
my skin color is kind of light dark brown…

I am trying to buy my engagement ring but the one I want the company went under and they are no longer making the rings. Everyone I have tried has them in yellow gold (which I hate) and is sold out of the white gold. Does anyone know if it would be possible to buy a yellow gold ring and have it plated in white gold? Would it ruin the ring? Would it hold up? And would it look good?

I just got a new 14ct white gold engagement ring for christmas. The ring was the wrong size, so i recently took it to a jeweler to have it sized. I just noticed that the back of the ring is turning a yellow color, it almost looks like yellow gold. I dont wear the ring when i do cleaning or any thing like that. Could the color have any thing to do with having the ring sized or does it just need cleaned? The ring is certified and i have the card that goes with it so, no its not fake. Please someone help me!

I have washed up 3 times, do an office job and haven’t done anything manual. I have been wearing it for 3 weeks and it has scratches all over it. I am aware that 18ct gold is softer but this soft? My mum wears hers to do everything in and its in a better state than mine!!!

Are there any stronger coatings that I can have it re-plated with?

Its such a shame as my two old silver rings look as good as my hundreds of pounds worth of diamond ring…..
I had if bought for me by my fiancee from a local jewellers.

The engagement ring would be white gold with 1.5K cushion cut solitaire, and the wedding ring is silver with yellow gold circling the ring.

Would mixing the silver and white gold stand out too much?

Our wedding bands will match. We saw them at an arts festival and really liked them. I haven't bought them yet. I was planning on going white gold all the way until we saw these rings. Just worried about mixing the metals.

Hello – I have yet to get this ring appraised but I want to transfer the diamond (if possible) from the yellow gold ring to a white gold ring. Would the yellow gold have any trade-in value to the white gold ring? Can they even transfer the diamond? I’m obviously clueless when it comes to jewelry. This is for an engagement ring.

I have an olive complexion, and I find that yellow gold is more flattering to my skin tone than white gold or platinum. However, when shopping for an engagement ring, I’m finding that high-end stores carry mostly platinum & white gold and don’t carry many yellow gold rings.

Is there a reason to NOT get a yellow gold engagement ring, besides taste? Like– is yellow gold significantly less durable?
