How is a prong usually fixed on a white gold diamond ring?

A diamond fell out on my wedding ring, and I took it to a jeweler to have it fixed. They put it back in and replaced two of the prongs. A few weeks later the prongs turned black and one even fell off. I took it back and they said it could happen from the solder. Is this usually how they fix rings? Are there any other ways to fix prongs besides solder? Thanks

No there isn’t. A new piece has to be soldered on – BUT, what happened with your ring is very sloppy workmanship (I am putting it mildly). If the right solder is used in the right way, this should not happen. I would request my money back and take this ring elsewhere. Totally not acceptable.
